Susie Shelter
Susie Shelter is a multi-media artist, activist, and Anarcha-Feminist author. She graduated magna cum laude from New York University’s Gallatin School, where she studied writing, painting and drawing, political theories, and history. She was noted as an Albert Gallatin Scholar and a Founder’s Scholar upon graduation.
Susie works mostly with chalk, charcoal, Bic pen, pencils, and a fire pen (woodburning artist).
Her writing, activism, or photos of her work and actions have been featured in Hampton Institute Working Class Think Tank, Institute for Anarchist Studies, Perspectives in Anarchist Theory, Common Dreams, Playboy, the Oregonian, National Education Association Magazine, and the New York Times.
Susie Shelter is the author of two books, A Different Vision: A Revolution Against Racism in Public Education, published in 2019, which became a staff pick at Powell’s Books, and We Can Recover: Healing Words for Families of Addicts, which she wrote and illustrated with original drawings, published during the pandemic.
Susie Shelter is a death and grief doula, using art, movement, flowers and plant medicine to help others process loss, change, and transformation.
Susie Shelter is a Witch working toward collective liberation. She connects with her ancestors, Jesus Christ, the Sacred Mother, and Holy Spirit, and the fairies, winged creatures, and Earth spirits who visit her garden. She believes in the use of plant medicines, especially mushrooms and a variety of homegrown herbs as aids in healing.
